Beauty tip #1

I think I'll post random beauty tips on this blog:

Tip #1 - smile! It worked for me last night when I broke down in tears after deciding to postpone Lily's birthday party. I cried and then laughed at myself for being so emotional about a princess party! There is no amount of blush that can make someone as pretty as when they are truly laughing. That's God's kind of pretty!

Snow day!!

Okay, so the day started out kinda bad...my daughter's fifth birthday party had to be canceled due to a snow storm. She took it better than I did, I cried like a baby and she didn't cry at all!! Thanks to my daughter's wonderful attitude about the whole thing the day has turned out to be quite lovely. We played in the snow and drank hot cocoa, watched movies and did lots of fun stuff!

I decided to go ahead and do my makeup just because I feel better with some mascara on my eyes. My "snow day" face consisted of Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, powder, Cover Girl shimmering sands trio, Clinique High Impact mascara, Mac pink swoon blush and Clinique long last glosswear in knockout nude. Very simple and it took about five minutes to complete. A great look when you just want to feel pretty!

Till next time,

Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Bamboo Pink review

A few years ago I bought the Clinique Glosswear lip gloss in air kiss because I loved the light pink color. Well, when I tried it on I had to wipe it off just seconds later! The smell and taste were beyond what my poor nose and taste buds could handle! I learned my lesson about buying Clinique lip glosses. Well, a few months ago I decided to try the new long last glosswear lip glosses. I was hoping that they didn't have the same smell as the previous glosses, and I was thrilled to find out that they are unscented and have no taste!! Yeah!!!! The first color I tried was Bamboo Pink and I loved it. It's a really pretty light pink with silver sparkles and a very light plummy undertone.

The gloss itself is kindof sticky, but not like MAC lipglasses, which I can't stand, but more of a smooth sticky. It last a couple of hours on me (not the eight hours that they advertise) and that is pretty good in my book for a lip gloss. My lips feel soft and moisturized while wearing this gloss. It doesn't dry out my lips like other long wearing lip gloss (L'Oreal), and it doesn't make my lips stick together like glue! All in all ,a great gloss

Clinique Colour Surge eye shadow trio in Totally Neutral review

I mentioned the Clinique Colour Surge eye shadow trio in Totally Neutral in my last post. I thought I would review it for you all! First of all, I have to say that I didn't used to like Clinique. I used it as a teenager and when I got older I just automatically thought that it was too young for me. Clinique has really surprised me lately! I love the new clear and silver packaging and that you can see the shadow colors on the bottom of the compact. Okay, so on to the review...

The Totally Neutral trio looks just like it's name, it consist of a shimmery cream color highlighter, a medium taupey grey and a dark brownish grey. They end up looking just plain grey on me, but I love that color! They blend easily and are really smooth to apply. I always use a base, either the Clinique touch tint or MAC painterly paint pot. The shadows stay on for at least eight hours, which I am happy with. The thing I love about this trio is the fact that it can go from day to night in a few swipes of my brush. For day wear I use the highlight color all over as a wash, then put the medium grey in the crease and follow with the dark grey as liner...beautiful and effortless. For night I do pretty much the same thing, but add a black gel liner on top lash line and line my top and bottom water line and darken the outer v with the dark grey. Instant classic smokey eye!!

I'm really happy with this trio and can't wait to try more colors!!

Girl's trip!!!

So my two besties and I went on a girls trip last October to Hotlanta (Atlanta) and stayed in the most beautiful hotel I've ever seen...the St. Regis. It makes the Ritz Carlton look like a Hampton Inn! We stayed in a suite and I fell in love with the decor. I loved it so much that I tried to redecorate my bedroom to look like our suite. I used pale blues and light golds to achieve the look I wanted...love it!

Anyway, we are going back to the St. Regis in March and I am already planning my "look" for the trip. It will be almost Spring, so I want to dress for happy weather. Every spring I get the urge to dress in nautical stripes and florals, but not at the same time! I want my look to be classic this year. My friend, Sarah, is a glamour girl (I think she looks like Eva Mendes) and my sister-in-law, Stephanie, is trendy and modern ( I think she looks like Sienna Miller), so I'm going to go classic, Old Hollywood (think Catherine Zeta-Jones) to balance us out. I have a fab trench coat that I bought on our last trip, so I'm going to base my outfits around that...like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I will wear dark rinse jeans, red patent leather flats, white button down shirt and my trench...perfection! The finishing touch will be my Louis Vuitton bag and Chanel sunglasses. I like to buy good quality bags, shoes and sunglasses and mid range clothes. A pair of big, dark sunglasses will make any outfit look fab!

I want to do natural makeup during the day and amp it up for our nights out on the town. I've really gotten into Clinique makeup lately, so I will probably use the Colour Surge trio in Totally Neutral. It is a great trio of taupe and grey with a highlighter shade in cream. Easy to use for day and can be smoked out for night. I'll pair this with a natural gloss for day and a shimmery one for night. I have a complex about my lips for some reason (I think they are crooked) and I don't like to draw attention to them too much, so I like to focus on my eyes...I like my eyes.

Well, I'm sure my "girl's trip plan" will change five times before we actually go, but that's the fun part of planning a trip, right? I love the anticipation!

Hi!!

My very first post!! I just started this blog like 2 seconds ago and I'm already at a loss for words...

Let's see, my name is Heidi and I'm a makeup addict. I love all things makeup, fashion, decor...you know, all things vain! I'm the mom of two beautiful girls, and a wife to the most wonderful man in the world. I'm a "stay at home mom" ( I hate that title...I'm hardly ever home), an author ( I co-authored a book with my mom about hospitality), a singer ( I grew up in the music business, now I just sing when I get the chance), and a self-proclaimed beauty junkie.

The point of this blog is to write about makeup, but who knows, I might end up writing about things that actually matter, too! Not that makeup doesn't matter, it's just that there are things that matter to me more than lip gloss. First, and foremost, I am a Christian and I won't be silent about that! I am very passionate and opinionated about politics, but I will try to be silent about that. I know how much of a divisive issue politics can be!

Let me share ten facts about me:
1. I really try to be a nice person, but sometimes I forget that
2. I can't spell to save my life!
3. I love Jesus, but don't spend as much time with Him as I should...constant battle
4. I'm very close to my family. We traveled and sang together when I was growing up, so we had a lot of bonding time!
5. I spend way to much time being concerned about the way I look...lots of waisted time...
6. I have a hard time with "follow through"...I'll start things and never finish th
7. I hate cooking, but love watching cooking shows
8. I have very natural curly hair that I have passed down to my two girls...along with the tender head
9. I've had a 20 year battle with weight...still trying to lose 30 pounds of baby weight...it's about time I win!!
10. I'm "cool by association" because my brother is a well know music producer and his wife is an amazing songwriter

Till next time....
